Why Houses 2, 5, and 11?

• 2nd House - Family growth. A child is an addition to the family unit, so the 2nd house is involved whenever the family expands.
• 5th House - The primary house of children and progeny. This is the core house for conception, pregnancy and childbirth.
• 11th House - Fulfilment of desire. Having a child is a deeply wished-for event, and the 11th house is the house of a wish coming true.

Step 1: Promise of Progeny - 5th Cusp Sub Lord at Three Levels

The first and decisive step is whether childbirth is promised in the birth chart. Read the 5th cusp sub lord at three levels, and at each level note the house that planet occupies and the houses it owns:

• The sub lord planet itself
• Its star lord (the lord of the nakshatra the sub lord is placed in)
• Its own sub lord

Three levels, no fourth. Then apply the promise test:

• Any one of houses 2, 5 or 11 in the chain - childbirth is PROMISED
• Houses 2, 5 or 11 together with 1, 4 or 10 - promised, with difficulty: delay, medical support or a difficult pregnancy, but a child
• Houses 1, 4 and 10 only, with none of 2, 5 or 11 - childbirth is NOT PROMISED

KP writers give the children rule in more than one form: most read it from the 5th cusp, some from the 11th cusp with the same houses 2, 5 and 11. A careful reading judges both and says whether they agree on the chart, rather than choosing one silently.

How the Adverse Houses Work

Classical KP states the adverse houses for children directly as 1, 4 and 10. They are not worked out mechanically from the favourable houses, and they never subtract from a promise. A 5th cusp sub lord connected to both the 5th and the 4th still promises a child; the 4th tells you the road will be harder. Only a chain that touches adverse houses and nothing else denies.

Step 2: Significators of Houses 2, 5, 11

• The occupants of 2, 5, 11
• Planets in the star of the owners of 2, 5, 11

When a higher grade is empty the next one moves up: a house with no planet in its occupant's star makes the occupant itself the leading significator. For each significator, its own sub lord outranks its star lord, so a planet signifying the 5th at the star level but with a sub lord connected to the 4th is one whose period may bring complications rather than a straightforward birth.

Step 3: Timing Through the Joint Dasha Period

Promise needs any one house; delivery needs all of them. A child arrives in a Vimshottari period whose Maha, Antar and Pratyantar lords jointly cover houses 2, 5 and 11, each lord contributing a different house, with the Maha lord signifying at least one. Dasha cannot deliver what the 5th cusp did not promise.

Every period that clears this bar inside the horizon is listed in time order. KP writing gives no rule for ranking one qualifying period above another, so an honest reading names no favoured window, no percentage and no single date. If a child is promised but no qualifying period falls within the years examined, the reading says exactly that.

Step 4: Candidate Days From Transit

Inside a qualifying period, transit narrows the moment. Which body is used depends on how far away the period is: Jupiter for years, the Sun for a period of months, the Moon for one of days. A day qualifies when that body's sign, star and sub lords all belong to the period lords. This produces several candidate days per period, unranked. Transit corroborates a period the dasha chain already chose; it never decides whether the event happens. Ruling planets are computed for the moment and place at which a question is judged; a birth-chart reading shows them for the record, and they decide nothing.

Adoption and Medical Assistance

KP writing treats adoption as its own matter, read from the 5th cusp sub lord with houses 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10, and timed by a joint period covering 2, 4 and 8.
