How KP Foreign Settlement Prediction Works — The 3-9-12 Rule

• 3rd house — journeys, movement away from the place of birth, the passport.
• 9th house — long journeys, foreign visits, higher study abroad.
• 12th house — residence abroad, life away from the homeland.
• 7th house — a foreign spouse (read from the 7th cusp, as a marriage rule).
• 10th house — a job abroad (read from the 10th cusp, as a career rule).

The rule for foreign travel and residence: the 12th cusp sub lord must signify any one of houses 3, 9 or 12. The sub lord is read at three levels — the planet, its star lord, its sub lord — and at each level the houses that planet occupies and owns are collected. One of the three houses is enough; signifying all three does not make the promise "stronger". Where classical KP states no adverse houses for a matter, as here, the reading derives none — it does not manufacture a negative set by counting houses.

9th Cusp Sub Lord — Higher Education Abroad

Study abroad is its own rule, read from the 9th cusp: higher education abroad is promised when the 9th cusp sub lord signifies any one of houses 4, 9, 11 or 12, and it is timed by the periods whose lords jointly cover 3, 9 and 12.

1. The 9th cusp sub lord signifying any one of 4, 9, 11 or 12 at any of its three levels — promised under this rule.
2. The houses found are named, so you can see whether the promise came through 9 or 12 (the foreign side of the rule) or through 4 or 11 (the education side); neither makes the promise "stronger".
3. The sub lord connected only to houses that work against the matter — not promised under this rule, shown with the houses that decided it.

Nothing here is graded, and there is no fourth step; the houses at the three levels decide.

12th Cusp Sub Lord — Travel and Settlement

For residence abroad — migration, a long posting, settlement — the 12th cusp sub lord is the decider, against houses 3, 9 and 12. Staying in the homeland is its own rule on the 12th cusp, against 2, 8 and 11. Ask a Question reads going abroad and staying in the homeland, and declines a question about settling abroad for good, free of charge.

Delivery. A Vimshottari period delivers a promised move only when its Maha, Antar and Pratyantar lords jointly cover all of 3, 9 and 12, each lord supplying a different house and the Maha lord at least one. Every qualifying period in the horizon is listed in time order, unranked. Inside each, candidate days come from transit agreement — the Sun for a period of months, the Moon for a period of days, a day qualifying when that body's sign, star and sub lords are all among the period lords. Several days, never one; the transit corroborates, it never decides. Saturn or Jupiter crossing a cusp is not used as a trigger.

The Ask a Question reading states the birth-time sensitivity of the 12th and 9th cusps: how many minutes the recorded time could move before their sub lords change.

Career Move Abroad vs Marriage Abroad vs Study Abroad

Classical KP separates these by the cusp that decides each, and the reading judges every rule separately:

• Study abroad — the 9th cusp sub lord against 4, 9, 11 and 12.
• A job abroad — the 10th cusp sub lord against 3, 6, 9, 10 and 12.
• Marriage to a foreigner — the 7th cusp sub lord against 2, 5, 7, 9 and 11, timed by 2, 7 and 11.
• Passport and visa — the 3rd cusp sub lord against 3, 9, 11 and 12.
• Residence abroad — the 12th cusp sub lord against 3, 9 and 12.
