Methodology
Why the Moment of Asking Matters
Classical KP horary fixes the chart from the moment a sincere question is put to the astrologer. Krishnamurti's original protocol asks the querent for a seed number between 1 and 249 — one for each of the 249 KP sub-divisions of the zodiac — which fixes the horary Ascendant precisely. The rest of the chart is cast for the moment and place of judgment.
The doctrine underneath is testable: across thousands of recorded horary judgments, the Ruling Planets of the question moment — the Ascendant's star and sign lords, the Moon's star and sign lords, and the Day Lord — repeatedly correspond to the planets that decide the matter in the querent's own chart. The Verdict: Cuspal Sub-Lord of the Matter House
Every question maps to a house. "Will I get the job?" is a 10th-house (with 2nd and 11th) matter. "Will I marry him?" is the 7th. "Will my visa come through?" is the 12th with the 9th. KP's verdict rule is mechanical: the Sub-Lord of the matter house's cusp must signify houses favourable to the matter for the answer to be YES. If it signifies the negating houses, the answer is NO — regardless of how pleasant the rest of the chart looks.
This is what separates KP horary from tarot-style divination or Vedic prashna's weighing of shubha and ashubha influences: the Sub-Lord either signifies the fruitful houses or it does not. Two astrologers applying the rule to the same chart reach the same verdict.
Timing: Dasha Agreement + Ruling Planet Confirmation
A YES without a date is astrology theatre. KP times the promised event by hunting the Vimshottari dasha ladder — Maha, Bhukti, Antara — for periods ruled by the matter's significators, then checks that the transiting slow planets agree. The Ruling Planets act as the cross-check: when the dasha lords of the promised window also appear among the question's Ruling Planets, the timing is confirmed. When they clash, the window is re-examined.
