Accurate KP chart calculation is the foundation of any reliable KP reading. Unlike a sign-based chart, which tolerates small calculation differences, a KP chart demands precision because the sub lord system operates on very narrow degree ranges. This guide covers what a KP astrology chart calculation online needs from you, the three settings that must be right, and what the finished chart is used for.

Essential Data for KP Chart Generation

To generate an accurate KP birth chart, you need three pieces of information:

• Date of Birth: The exact calendar date
• Time of Birth: As precise as possible, ideally to the minute. A few minutes of error can shift a cusp's sub lord and change the verdict for that house
• Place of Birth: The city or town with its latitude and longitude. The Placidus house system is sensitive to geographical coordinates, especially latitude

Critical Settings for KP Calculation

When using any astrology software for KP charts, verify these three settings are correctly configured:

1. House System: Placidus

KP exclusively uses the Placidus house system. Do not use Equal House, Whole Sign, Koch, or any other house system. Placidus calculates cusps based on the trisection of diurnal and nocturnal semi-arcs, resulting in unequal house sizes; the cuspal sub lord is defined on these cusps and on no others.

2. Ayanamsa: KP (Krishnamurti)

The KP Ayanamsa differs from the more commonly used Lahiri Ayanamsa by a small margin, a few arc minutes as of 2026 (the exact figure depends on whether KP Old or KP New is used). While this seems tiny, it is enough to shift a borderline planet or cusp into a different sub-division, changing the sub lord and with it the verdict.

3. Nodes: Mean vs. True

KP practitioners are divided on whether to use Mean Rahu/Ketu or True Rahu/Ketu. Mean nodes move in a steady retrograde motion, while True nodes oscillate. Most classical KP practitioners prefer Mean nodes.

What Your KP Chart Should Display

A complete KP chart output should include:

• Cusp Table: All 12 cusp degrees with Sign Lord, Star Lord, and Sub Lord for each
• Planet Table: Each planet's degree with its Sign-Star-Sub breakdown, plus retrograde status
• Significator Table: The houses each planet signifies through occupation and ownership, at the planet, star lord and sub lord levels
• Dasha Table: Current and upcoming Vimshottari Dasha-Bhukti-Antara periods with dates
• Ruling Planets: If the software supports it, the Ruling Planets for the current moment. In a birth-chart reading these are shown for the record only; they need a moment and place of judgment, and they decide nothing about a natal matter

Reading the Chart Once It Is Cast

The tables above feed one procedure. For any matter, classical KP writing names the cusp that governs it and the houses it requires: marriage is judged from the 7th cusp and needs 2, 7 or 11; a job from the 10th and needs 2, 6 or 10; recovery from illness from the 6th and needs 1, 5 or 11. The sub lord of that cusp is read at three levels, the planet, its star lord and its sub lord, collecting at each level the houses that planet occupies and owns.

If the sub lord signifies any one required house, the matter is promised, even when adverse houses appear alongside. It is not promised only when the sub lord is connected to adverse houses exclusively. The adverse houses are the ones KP writing states for that matter (6, 8 and 12 against health; 1, 6, 10 and 12 against marriage); they never subtract from a promise, they mark it as promised with difficulty.

A promised matter is then timed from the dasha table: a Vimshottari period delivers when its Maha, Antar and Pratyantar lords between them signify all the houses that time the matter, each lord supplying a different house. Every period that passes is listed in time order, none ranked above another, with candidate days inside each from the Sun or Moon transiting in agreement with the period lords. Birth Time Rectification in KP

If your birth time is uncertain, KP offers a rectification method using Ruling Planets. Calculate the Ruling Planets at the moment and place of the consultation, then adjust the birth time so that the Ascendant sub lord agrees with them, and test the adjusted time against events that have already happened. Done carefully, this can narrow the birth time to within a minute or two.

Whether or not the time has been rectified, a KP reading should state its birth-time sensitivity: for each cusp read, how many minutes the recorded time could move before that cusp's sub lord changes. A verdict that survives a ten-minute error is on firmer ground than one that flips at ninety seconds.

Verifying Your Chart

After generating your KP chart, verify it against known life events. Check whether the cuspal sub lord of the 7th house correctly indicates your marital status, whether the 10th cusp sub lord fits your career pattern, and whether major dasha transitions correspond to actual life changes. If the chart does not match reality, your birth time may need rectification.
