Reading Your Current Maha Dasha
The Maha Dasha lord sets the frame for years at a time. To read yours, collect the houses it signifies in your KP chart at three levels: the planet itself (the house it occupies and the houses it owns), its star lord (the same, for that planet) and its sub lord. The result is a short list of houses. Every event timed inside this Maha Dasha must draw at least one of its required houses from that list — the Maha lord's signification is mandatory. If your Maha lord signifies the 10th and the 7th, career and partnership matters have a way in throughout the period; if it signifies neither 2, 7 nor 11, no Antar Dasha beneath it can deliver a marriage.
The Antar Dasha Modifier
Within the Maha frame, the running Antar Dasha lord adds its own houses to the pool. KP's test is a joint one: the Maha, Antar and Pratyantar lords together must cover all the houses an event requires, each lord contributing a different house. So the Antar lord is not examined for overlap with the Maha lord; it is examined for what it adds. A Maha lord supplying the 2nd and an Antar lord supplying the 7th and 11th between them complete the 2-7-11 set that marriage needs.
Pratyantar Dasha: The Current Focus
The Pratyantar Dasha narrows the window to weeks, and it is usually the level at which an event actually falls. It joins the same test: if the Maha and Antar lords leave one required house uncovered and the Pratyantar lord supplies it, that Pratyantar period qualifies. Checking your Pratyantar is the most useful short-term step — provided the matter is promised in the first place.
How to Interpret Combined Significations
List the houses each running lord signifies, then hold them against the house set of the matter you care about as classical KP writing states it: 2-7-11 for marriage, 2-6-10 for a job, 2-6-11 for money earned, 1-5-11 for recovery from illness, and so on. The period qualifies when the three lords between them cover every house in that set. Do not add up levels or look for "strength": three lords all signifying the 11th cover one house, not three. Adverse houses the lords also signify (6, 8 and 12 against health, for example) do not cancel a qualifying period; they annotate it as delivery with difficulty.
What Your Dasha Cannot Change
The dasha activates; it does not create. Whether a matter can happen at all is decided by the sub lord of the cusp that governs it, read at the same three levels — planet, star lord, sub lord — for the houses occupied and owned. If any one required house appears, the matter is promised, even alongside adverse houses; it is not promised only when the sub lord connects to adverse houses exclusively.
